Hong Kong's timegun

Hong Kong Time Gun

In 1842 the British Army occupied Hong Kong and established a noon time gun. The gun and time service were taken over by Jardines Trading Company.

The present weapon - a Hotchkiss Mark 1 - was purchased in 1948, and built in 1900 for the Royal Navy. Situated at East Point the gun is still fired daily by the company's gunner.
